Conversation Starters–February

Conversation prompts can help you explore new topics, interests, and ideas with anyone. Also, they’re great for practicing etiquette, listening, and communication skills.

Whether you’re at a party talking to someone you’ve just met or you’re spending time with friends you haven’t seen in a while, coming up with good conversation starters that aren’t just boring small talk can be a struggle. You want it to be interesting, insightful and entertaining, and that means saying something or asking a question more than, “So, this weather, huh?” Here are a few conversation starters for February that can’t miss.

February-specific topics

  • Presidents Day: Discuss influential presidents or imagine what it would be like to be president.
  • Valentine’s Day: Ask about favorite candies, how they celebrate, or what their favorite gift is.
  • Super Bowl: Inquire if they watch sports, their favorite team, or how they like to watch the game.
  • International Day of Women and Girls in Science: Research and discuss inspiring women in science.
  • Love your Pet Day: Share stories about your pets and what you do to keep them healthy.
