California has officially made September 25 Dolly Parton Day. West Hollywood’s Rainbow District is wasting no time getting into big hair and rhinestone embellished costumes.
The new state holiday was established through SB 931, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on September 20. The date was chosen as a nod to Parton’s iconic workplace anthem, “9 to 5.” The legislation honors the singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist. Basically, her career stretched across music, movies, business and humanitarian work.
Parton died August 25 at age 80, prompting tributes in West Hollywood and across California. Her legacy includes the Imagination Library, which has distributed more than 300 million books to children worldwide, as well as decades of support for charitable causes.
