There are a few things you can always rely on at your local grocery store: tirelessly searching for oat milk creamers, maneuvering around other customers in the ice cream aisle, and double bagging at the check-out counter. But change is upon us! The New York plastic bag ban finally went into effect on Sunday, March 1, and we’re so ready to bust out all the cute nylon, canvas, and tote bags.
What does this ban mean? New York is joining other states—including California, Connecticut, and Maine—in the ban against single-use plastic bags. First of all, they’re flimsy and thin (hence the double bagging) and are terrible for the environment, creating greenhouse gas emissions and getting into our oceans and rivers, and even rolling around on streets. Last time we checked, this isn’t the city’s version of tumbleweed.
Instead of trying to find a nickel, go for one of these stylish, reusable shopping bags! The one sad bag you have in the closet might not carry everything from your grocery haul, just saying.
Trendy! Fun! Cute! Yes, we associate Baggu with all these descriptions. Loved by thousands on Amazon (and several on our staff), these nylon grocery/everyday bags have become nearly essential for shopping runs, along with our wallet and keys. They are extremely durable, hold up to 50 pounds, come in three different sizes, and have so many designs.
Reusable Grocery Bags
Looking for an inexpensive, simple option? These reusable grocery bags get the job done, holding up to 45 pounds each. Easy to clean, in case your O.J. leaks, they’re made of a BPA- and BPS-free polypropylene material. Despite the price, they have reinforced corners and double-stitched seams, so tearing is a thing of the past.
OK. One more–
These polyester tote bags make it easy to lighten your carbon footprint, conveniently folding up into its small carrying case, making them readily accessible from your car or purse. They’re waterproof and durable, featuring a rip-stop design. Oh, and because they’re waterproof, they’re also machine washable!
