How To Use Tapping For Anxiety - mindbodygreen

OK.  I’m all for keeping an open mind, but energy flows and blockages, meridians and a technique called tapping, are all beyond my comprehension.  I post this article for your reading pleasure because relieving stress, however accomplished, is well within the boundaries of my stated blog purposes.  If you try this, or have tried it, and it does relieve your stress, then please share your experience with us.

Here’s How It’s Done

“Have you ever had a moment, a day, or even a week when you just couldn’t escape the feeling of anxiety? Have you ever tried preparing for a big event or an important meeting only to feel like the world is on your shoulders and you can’t calm down?

Well, that’s where an incredible technique called tapping comes in to save the day. Emotional freedom technique (EFT), also known as tapping, is an amazing tool that can help shift your energy and promote mind-body healing in a matter of minutes. Tapping connects us to the subtle energies of the body, known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as meridians. These meridians are thought to help control the flow of the body’s energy, including its balance and harmony. When there is a disruption in the flow of energy, it is usually felt as pain or discomfort.
How it works.
The tapping helps move through blockages and creates a healthy flow of energy by physically tapping on these meridians, while saying an intention. Speaking a variety of emotional statements aloud during the exercise allows you to bring awareness to your emotional self and uncover any emotions that may have gone unnoticed for quite some time. (For example, start tapping the space in between your eyebrows, then move down to underneath the eye, repeating the phrase “I am not my stress.”)

By allowing the physical and mental bodies to unite and move energy through tapping and speaking simultaneously, you are creating space for the energetic body to release and move through blockages and disruptions almost immediately.

I use tapping in all of my public classes, workshops, private sessions, and retreats and have noticed the practice promotes an immediate shift and release in energy. Sometimes it takes several minutes and several rounds of tapping to really feel the release and shifting of energy, and other times it takes just one to two minutes. People who have never tried energy healing work and are very much skeptical of the practice will often tell me how much more peaceful they feel after tapping. It’s a great technique to utilize before meditating as well, especially if your mind feels restless or incredibly busy.

With tapping (and any form of self-healing, for that matter) you don’t always need to know what you released, where it came from, or why it was there in the first place. It’s more about showing up for yourself in each moment, noticing if your energy feels off, and then taking the time to acknowledge where you are and what you need. If you try tapping and notice that you feel better or lighter, even just slightly, then it’s a good sign that this is a technique you can keep trying and turning to for the balance and harmony.”
